ARTIST INTERVIEW: POLINA DOBROTINA SHORTLISTED AT THE ROYAL ARTS PRIZE 2020
2020 Kicked Off with good news
We’re delighted to announce that Polina Dobrotina has been shortlisted for the Royal Arts Prize 2020 and can’t wait to see these two beautiful works in the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery from 20th to 29th February! Here is a short interview with Polina for you.
I.: What’s RAP 2020 means for you?
P.: It’s a big achievement for me. I’m extremely proud to be one of the shortlisted artists to showcase my artwork in the very central Art Gallery in London - The Royal Opera Arcade & La Galleria Pall Mall. It’s a great opportunity to meet people who drive Art Industry.
I.: Which ones of your works will be exhibited? What’s special about them?
P.: There will be two of my works exhibited. Both of them are extraordinary, in a different way.
UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES - communicates desires but doesn’t give any idea of what’s gonna happen if… This is the Bright manifest of Life. It seems quite violent from the first sight but it actually has a very positive and strong idea behind. This is an artwork that gives motivation to create and do whatever one likes. This is to tell people that it is very important to look inside themselves sometimes and not only listen to what others say. This is to motivate people to break self boundaries and let whatever is inside prosper and shine. Not to be afraid but to have strength to look inside and trust yourself in any stressful situation. When you feel like you’re panicking, take a moment to feel this first, don’t run from those feelings, let them pass. You are the creator of your life, not anyone else. If something unexpected happens, it’s for the reason. You don’t have to understand it straight away.
GANESH - a lovely piece I created inspired by thoughts I brought from my trip to India. For me it was a MANIFEST of CALMNESS in relationships. ANY relationships bring both happiness and uncertainty to our lives. We all know that sometimes we freak out because we FOCUS TOO MUCH on our PERCEPTIONS INSTEAD OF REALITY. This normally leads us to either DESTRUCTION of the relationships or a DEEP DIVE into our IMAGINARY WORLD where we live until something radical happens. This beautiful elephant brought me an UNDERSTANDING of the fact that my own perceptions are only a tiny part of the bigger picture of reality and in order to have the full picture, I need to look BROADER, be more ATTENTIVE to others but REACT CALM to their mind-blowing actions.
I.: Wow, I’d never thought it involves so much philosophy! Right, last question - What do you expect from the RAP 2020?
P.: Ufff… well… I prefer to avoid expectations, hahaha. I think there should be an element of surprise!
Answering your question, I don’t know what will happen but I know what I’d like …
I’d like to share my experience and philosophy with the visitors of the RAP, make them not only look at the painting but understand the philosophy behind, not only touch but FEEL the power. - Ask questions, be proactive, share your opinion and let me know what they think. Your feelings are very important to me.
From the professional point of view, I’d like to connect with key people in Art Industry and get their feedback. I’d like to walk out of this adventure with knowledge and contacts which would help me grow further.
